Now Hiring: UPPS Director

To our future UPPS Director,

Greetings from University Presbyterian Preschool (UPPS) and University Presbyterian Church (UPC) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina! We don’t know who you are yet. We don’t know what your favorite children’s book is or if you prefer coffee or tea or water to start your day. We don’t know what makes you laugh or how you live into the phrase “play every day,” but we are eager to find out as we look for someone to love, nurture, and lead the children and staff at our preschool.

UPPS is a half-day early childhood program serving children ages 2–5. The most important thing we want you to know about us is how truly we live our mission: “Our work is play!” We believe children learn best through hands-on exploration, social interaction, and purposeful play. Play is not just an activity here — it is our primary teaching tool. We are seeking a leader who deeply understands early childhood development, values the central role of play, and can support teachers in implementing intentional, research-informed, play-based learning.

UPPS is a ministry of University Presbyterian Church (UPC), a congregation with nearly 200 years of history serving Chapel Hill. While UPPS is not a Christian preschool, it operates within the life of the church and reflects UPC’s commitment to education, community, and an inclusive welcome for all. The Director is a valued member of the UPC staff team and participates in staff life and communication.

We are looking for a relational, organized, and mission-aligned leader who is passionate about early childhood education and thrives in a collaborative environment. If this resonates with you, we would love to hear from you!
